Partial strike hits Abyan commercial markets amid worsening living conditions

ABYAN, Aug. 06 (YPA) – A partial strike was launched on Thursday in Yafa’a district of Yemen’s Abyan province, affecting shops, exchange offices, vegetable stalls, and pharmacies in Al-Ribat commercial market.

The strike came following a call by southern labor unions protesting deteriorating living conditions and demanding improved basic services.

Local sources reported that commercial activity in the market nearly came to a halt during the early hours of the strike, as many businesses closed their doors, with broad support from traders and citizens.

Participants called for economic and service reforms, particularly improvements in electricity, healthcare, and security, in addition to political demands raised by the organizers.

Union and local figures warned that continued neglect of public demands could lead to broader escalation measures if authorities fail to respond.
