Clashes renew between STC militia, Saudi-backed factions in Aden for second day

ADEN, July 28 (YPA) – Armed clashes renewed in Aden on Tuesday between militias affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Saudi-backed factions, marking the second consecutive day of fighting amid a new escalation against the Saudi presence in the city.

The fighting erupted in the districts of Khormaksar and Al-Mansoura after STC fighters launched a campaign to take down portraits of Aden Governor Abdulrahman Sheikh—who is aligned with Saudi Arabia—from Ninety Street, replacing them with images of STC President Aidarous al-Zubaidi in Khormaksar.

These attacks fall within the scope of an escalation program announced by the STC on the 7th of this month under the slogan “expelling the Saudi occupation,” in an indication reflecting the UAE’s trajectory toward settling the battle for Aden militarily.
