Thousands protest in Aden, Abyan against Saudi influence, service crisis
ADEN/ABYAN, July 26 (YPA) – Thousands of citizens staged protests on Sunday in Yemen’s southern provinces of Aden and Abyan, rejecting Saudi tutelage, a war on services, and systematic impoverishment in areas administered by the Saudi-backed Special Committee.
The demonstrations, held as part of an escalation announced by the UAE-backed dissolved Southern Transitional Council (STC) in recent days, took place along the main street in Al-Mansoura district in Aden, as well as in Zinjibar, the capital of Abyan province.
Protesters expressed their rejection of Saudi interference and foreign intervention, while condemning the deteriorating living and service conditions in the cities.
They chanted slogans criticizing the ongoing service crisis and carried banners supporting the STC, vowing to resist what they called policies of hunger and impoverishment.
During the protests, participants blamed the continued suspension of salaries, currency collapse, rising fuel and commodity prices, and worsening living conditions on collective punishment aimed at distracting citizens with daily survival concerns.
The demonstrators accused Saudi Arabia of using service disruptions and economic pressure as political tools to force citizens to abandon their demands and accept external control.
They also rejected attempts by the Special Committee to impose a fait accompli in Aden and other areas, stressing that worsening humanitarian and service conditions would not weaken their demands to end foreign tutelage.
