Dialogue between Yemenis is only way to end conflict: UN envoy
SANAA, Aug. 8 (YPA) – The UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, said on Wednesday that a political settlement through a comprehensive dialogue between Yemenis is the only way to end the existing conflict since four years and address the humanitarian crisis.
In a statement, the UN envoy said that he called for “a consultative meeting held in Britain on Tuesday with 22 Yemeni figures and female activists.”
“The two-day meeting aimed at providing an opportunity to consult with Yemeni social and political figures who have unique knowledge about Yemeni society,” Griffith, who chaired the meeting, said.
On Thursday, Griffiths announced that he intends to gather the parties to the conflict at the negotiating table in Geneva on 6 September, as he explained in his briefing to the Security Council, noting that those talks will be the first of its kind in two years and aim to achieve peace in Yemen.
