Protests in Mahra, Hadramout denounce Saudi presence, demand better services

MAHRA, HADRAMOUT, July 23 (YPA) – Hundreds of citizens took part on Wednesday in large demonstrations and marches in Al-Ghaydah city, the capital of Mahra province, and Shibam in Hadramout province, rejecting the Saudi presence and Saudi “tutelage” as well as denouncing worsening service crisis.

A large vehicle convoy toured the streets of Al-Ghaydah, with protesters raising slogans rejecting foreign intervention and Saudi “guardianship.”

They also expressed anger over the continued collapse of essential services in the province.

Another motorcycle rally was held in Al-Masilah district in response to the escalation phase announced by the “dissolved” Southern Transitional Council (STC).

Meanwhile, the historic city of Shibam Hadramout witnessed an angry protest that began at Freedom Square and ended at Al-Hosn Square.

Protesters rejected foreign interference and all forms of imposed tutelage over the people of the province and other areas under Saudi control.

They called on the Saudi-backed local authorities to urgently address the electricity crisis by reoperating the city’s two main power lines to ensure stable electricity service.

Protesters also demanded fair treatment for teachers and improvements to their living conditions to enhance the education sector ahead of the new school year, as well as the provision of decent Living Standards and public services.
