French organizations sue government for not preventing its companies from supporting Israeli occupation

PARIS, July 22 (YPA) – Five French human rights organizations filed a lawsuit on Wednesday before the Council of State demanding that the government take measures to prevent French companies and financial institutions from supporting Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian territories.

The organizations, including the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), JURDI, and ICJP, asserted that France has failed to uphold its obligations under international law by not preventing companies from engaging in trade and investments that contribute to the continuation of the occupation.

The lawsuit is based on the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in July 2024, which ruled that Israel’s presence in the occupied Palestinian territories is illegal and obligated states not to provide any assistance to maintain this situation and to take steps to prevent trade and investment relations that support it.

The plaintiffs pointed out that France has not translated this into concrete regulatory measures.
