Tehran warns Sofia against approving deployment of US aircraft for operations against Iran

TEHRAN, July 22 (YPA) – The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned Bulgaria against permitting the United States to utilize its territory and military capabilities, calling on the Bulgarian parliament to reject a Washington request to deploy warplanes to the Bezmer Air Base in support of operations against Iran.

Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, stressed that acceding to the US request would render Bulgaria complicit in aggression and war crimes, violating its international obligations and the principle of sovereignty. He cited UN General Assembly Resolution 3314, which defines allowing a state’s territory to be used for committing an act of aggression against a third state as an act of aggression itself.

Baghaei emphasized that ongoing US-Israeli attacks since February 28 constitute a violation of the UN Charter and international law. He noted that while Tehran remains keen on maintaining its relations with Sofia, it will not hesitate to defend its national security, warning that any party participating in aggression will bear full responsibility for the consequences.
