Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announces explosion of two oil tankers in Strait of Hormuz

TEHRAN, July 20 (YPA) – Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced on Monday that two oil tankers exploded and were disabled while attempting to cross what it described as an “unsafe southern passage” in the Strait of Hormuz, claiming that the US military encouraged them to use it.

The statement did not mention the names or flags of the ships, the number of crews, or any casualties.

The Revolutionary Guard said the waterway would remain unsafe “as long as American aggression continues in the region,” warning that this passage would not be safe for the passage of petrochemical products, or even a single drop of oil and gas.

In a related context, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported a fire on a vessel 8 nautical miles northwest of Khasab in Oman in the Strait of Hormuz, noting that it had received information from military authorities about the fire, without yet confirming the cause of the incident.
