TEHRAN, July 13 (YPA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi affirmed Iran’s right to receive fees for securing navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, responding to statements by US President Donald Trump regarding compensation for insuring navigation in the strategic strait.
Araqchi said in a post on the X platform that “the US president is right that the party that provides a safe and secure passage for commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz deserves compensation for this service,” stressing that “Iran has always been the guardian of the strait and will remain so forever.”
He added that the 20 percent figure Trump mentioned is “very high,” indicating that Tehran “will be fair.”
Trump had announced in a post on his Truth Social platform that the United States would henceforth be known as the “Guardian of the Strait of Hormuz,” calling for compensation of 20 percent of the value of all shipments transported through the strait as a matter of fairness.
