LONDON, July 13 (YPA) – Activists hung a Palestinian flag on London’s Tower Bridge, calling for the release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza, who was detained by Israeli occupation forces in 2024 and has remained in custody since then.
A group of pro-Palestinian supporters hung the flag on Monday along with a banner reading: “Release Dr. Hussam immediately” on the bridge.
In response, the City of London Police closed the bridge to traffic in both directions.
Activists also held a similar demonstration at Waterloo railway station in London, where they displayed the Palestinian flag and a banner from the second floor of the station while chanting slogans in support of Palestine and Dr. Abu Safiya.
On June 16, the Israeli Supreme Court rejected a petition seeking Abu Safiya’s release.
The occupation forces arrested Abu Safiya on December 27, 2024, during a raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital, where he served as director, amid the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.
