4 workers killed in coal mine explosion in southwest China

SANAA, Aug. 7 (YPA) – At least four workers were killed and nine others were missing in a coal mine explosion in southwest China on Sunday, local reports said.

The explosion took place at the Jinshangou Coal Mine, in Yongchuan District of Balochistan province, which is run by a private company and has a production capacity of 300,000 tons per year.

The official news agency said the causes of the explosion were still unknown, indicating that the rescue work is still underway.

Records from the Guizhou Department of Energy said the mine had been ordered to carry out safety-related repairs during a search by local authorities in late April.

Banan Coal company, which manages the mine, has not commented on the incident until now.
