Palestinian Prisoners Club: Upholding detention of Dr. Abu Safiya is a blatant example of Israeli arbitrary detention policies

GAZA, June 17 (YPA) – The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club confirmed that the “Israeli” Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the arrest of Dr. Husam Abu Safiya constitutes a blatant example of the policy of arbitrary detention pursued by the occupation against thousands of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the aggression.

The Prisoners’ Club explained in a statement issued on Wednesday that hundreds of detainees remain held in the occupation’s prisons and camps under the so-called “Illegal Combatant” Law to justify their detention outside recognized legal guarantees.

It pointed out that the “Israeli” judicial system employs a policy of procrastination and stalling in reviewing petitions related to detention conditions and violations, which exacerbates the suffering of the prisoners and entrenches procedures that violate international human rights covenants.
