Container ship targeted off Saudi-controlled coast, southern Yemen

LONDON, June 15 (YPA) – A container ship, identified as the Panama-flagged “Greta Star,” was subjected to an armed attack on Monday by unidentified individuals in a small boat, 14 nautical miles south of the Saudi-controlled Yemeni coast.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed receiving a report that attackers opened fire on the vessel and attempted to board it, urging passing ships to exercise extreme caution.

Concurrently, pro-Saudi media outlets in Aden reported that the attack was carried out using an RPG shell fired by four armed men, resulting in no damage or casualties, and the attackers failed to board the ship.

Notably, this attack is the fourth of its kind within a month in territorial waters under the control of pro-Saudi armed factions, which Riyadh formed from extremist Salafi groups in southern and eastern Yemen.
