Al-Houthi: Trump’s remarks are “empty posturing” as Vietnam legacy shatters illusions of “peace through strength”
SANAA, June 11 (YPA) – Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, a member of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council in Sanaa, said recent remarks by US President Donald Trump were an attempt to project the ability to impose agreements through force, in line with his doctrine of “peace through strength.”
In a post on X, al-Houthi said the true objective behind such positions is to restore the image of US deterrence, which has been severely damaged, and to present it again to Washington’s allies, as well as to major global powers such as China and Europe.
Citing historical precedents to challenge this doctrine, he argued that if military power alone could secure lasting peace, the United States would have succeeded in Vietnam.
He emphasized that the American failure there occurred in a bygone era, long before today’s rapid advances in technology and social media, making reliance on force today impossible.
Al-Houthi concluded his statement by warning against the consequences of making any concessions to the US administration, asserting that Washington’s appetite for further gains only increases when it senses a willingness to concede, in an effort to impose its agenda.
