Large-scale campaign removes STC’s images from streets of Aden amid rising tensions

ADEN, June 02 (YPA) – The armed factions aligned with Saudi Arabia launched a wide-ranging campaign to remove posters and images of Aidarus al-Zubaidi, head of Southern Transitional Council (STC), from major streets, public buildings, and government facilities across the city.

According to the Local sources and eyewitnesses in the southern Yemeni city of Aden said that the campaign targeted several prominent locations, including the vicinity of Al-Oroudh Square in Khor-Maksar district, the entrance to Aden International Airport, and buildings used by the STC such as its National Assembly and General Secretariat headquarters.

The developments came amid escalating tensions between Saudi-backed and UAE-backed factions, reflecting an ongoing struggle for influence and control in southern and eastern Yemen.

Observers said the removal of the STC’s symbols carries political significance beyond the physical removal of banners and posters, viewing it as part of broader efforts to challenge the council’s influence in Aden.

The move follows recent demonstrations and political activities by supporters of the STC that highlighted differences between rival regional allies.

The campaign coincided with heightened security measures in Aden, including the deployment of armored vehicles and additional security forces. Supporters and officials affiliated with the STC criticized the move, describing it as a provocative action amid the growing political rivalry in the city.
