Egypt condemns expansion of Israeli ground incursion into southern Lebanon, warns of regional explosion
CAIRO, May 31 (YPA) – The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a strongly worded statement condemning, in the harshest terms, the ongoing Israeli occupation aggression against the brotherly Lebanese Republic, particularly the expansion of the ground incursion into the south of the country.
The ministry described this escalation as a “brutal aggression” and a “complete violation of Lebanese sovereignty,” reflecting premeditated intentions to impose a new military reality on the ground in flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter.
Egypt affirmed its categorical rejection of any infringement on Lebanese national soil, reaffirming its full support for the unity of the Lebanese state, its national institutions, and its territorial integrity.
The statement demanded an immediate and complete Israeli withdrawal from all Lebanese territories and the comprehensive implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 without selectivity, while emphasizing the need to empower state institutions, foremost among them the Lebanese Army, to extend their exclusive sovereignty over the entire national territory.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry warned that “Israel’s” continued expansion of its military operations will detonate the situation and lead the region into further chaos and instability, calling on the UN Security Council and influential international actors to urgently and decisively assume their responsibilities to halt the aggression immediately.
