Meteorology issues warnings of heavy rain, extreme heat across Yemen

SANAA, May 29 (YPA) – The National Center of Meteorology and Early Warning (NCM) forecasts scattered rainfall of varying intensity across several governorates, alongside “hot to extremely hot” win desert, coastal, and lowland areas over the next 24 hours.

According to the NCM’s latest weather bulletin, moderate to heavy rain is expected in the governorates of Taiz, Ibb, and Al-Dhalea, as well as the highlands of Lahj and Abyan.

Parts of Al-Bayda, Dhamar, Raymah, Mahwit, Hajjah, and Amran may also see scattered rainfall, extending to western Sanaa and Saada, the Tihama Plain, and the southern coasts.

The center further warned that intense heat will persist across desert regions, plains, coastal areas, and inland plateaus.

Residents in mountainous areas are urged to exercise extreme caution near valleys and waterways.

The NCM warned against crossing or remaining in flood paths during and after rainfall due to the risk of sudden flash floods.

Due to the scorching temperatures, the public is advised to avoid direct sunlight during midday hours and to stay hydrated.
