Social media erupts after videos show abuse in Marib detention facility

MARIB, May 16 (YPA) – Several photos and videos circulated on social media appeared to document the alleged torture of the son of a military figure affiliated with pro-Saudi forces from Bayda province inside a detention facility in the city of Marib.

In a video statement posted on Facebook, Mohammed Al-Humaikani, son of commander Saleh Al-Humaikani, said his father was detained in Marib almost 18 days ago after demanding his rights through messages shared on WhatsApp.

According to Mohammed, his father has since been held incommunicado in secret detention facilities run by factions linked to the Al-Islah Party, without formal charges or legal procedures. He also said that authorities refused to disclose his father’s whereabouts or permit family visits.

Mohammed Al-Humaikani further claimed that he was subjected to physical abuse and threats after publicly demanding information about his father’s fate. He added that Marib-based local authorities in pressured him to remove videos he had published online documenting the alleged abuses.

He appealed to tribal leaders and human rights organizations to intervene and press for his father’s release and an investigation into the alleged violations.

Local activists and social media users condemned the reported incidents, describing them as serious human rights violations and calling for accountability and transparency regarding detention practices in Marib.
