SHABWA, May 08 (YPA) – One person was killed and two others injured in armed clashes that erupted south of Ataq, the administrative center of Yemen’s oil-rich Shabwa province, amid ongoing security chaos in the region.
Local sources reported that armed men from the Al-Maraziq tribe launched a surprise attack on members of the Al Bafiyadh tribe on Thursday evening in the Al-Saeed junction area south of Ataq.
The attack left one person dead and two others wounded.
The sources attributed the incident to an ongoing tribal revenge between the two tribes, amid a growing wave of tribal violence across Shabwa’s districts.
Observers say parties loyal to Saudi Arabia and the UAE are fueling tribal conflicts by providing financial and military support to rival groups.
The incident comes as security unrest continues to grip Shabwa, alongside the absence of an effective local authority since factions backed by Riyadh and Abu Dhabi took control of the province and other southern and eastern regions of Yemen in recent years.
