Iranian Official: ‘Trump’s threats are detached from reality amid signs of US decline’

TEHRAN, May 03 (YPA) – Ali Akbar Velayati, an adviser to the Supreme Leader of Iran, stated on Sunday that recent actions and statements attributed to former U.S. President Donald Trump will not significantly affect the current geopolitical landscape.

In a statement, Velayati argued that global power dynamics are increasingly shifting away from traditional U.S. influence.

He pointed to what he described as signs of declining American influence, including the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Germany, debates surrounding the cohesion of NATO, and reported operational challenges within the U.S. Navy, which he said reflect broader structural weaknesses.

Velayati also criticized recent threats made by Trump toward Iran, particularly remarks concerning economic pressure, arguing that such statements demonstrate a misunderstanding of global economic interdependence and supply chains.

The adviser further noted the strategic importance of maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing its role in global energy and commodity flows, and Iran’s influence over the region.

He concluded that current international trends point toward a multipolar global order and a continued erosion of unilateral dominance in world affairs.
