Picture exposes falsehood of Saudi development promises in southern Yemen
LAHJ, April 28 (YPA) – Activists have shared shocking images documenting the “stifling siege” imposed by piles of trash on ‘Madinat Al-Salam’ (Peace City) in Lahj Governorate, which is under the control of pro-Saudi forces.
Residential neighborhoods have been transformed into “open dumpsites” amid an unprecedented environmental deterioration.
Activists described this decline as a result of local authorities abandoning their responsibilities, pointing fingers at officials for “squandering massive resources” belonging to the “Cleaning and Improvement Fund” and diverting them toward personal interests instead of removing waste.
They explained that the accumulation of waste has led to the spread of unbearable odors and the breeding of disease-carrying mosquitoes, leading to the “outbreak of epidemics” among residents, as well as terrifying surge in stray dogs using the garbage piles as shelter, threatening the lives of pedestrians and children.
This catastrophe doubles the suffering of citizens already struggling under the weight of stifling crises, amid “total silence” from the government and authorities loyal to Saudi Arabia.
Residents held the authorities fully responsible for the “catastrophic consequences” of this deliberate negligence, which has distorted the civilized face of the city located near the Dar Sad area.
