US officials: Depletion of munitions during war with Iran could hamper US ability to defend Taiwan

WASHINGTON, April 24 (YPA) –A report published by the US newspaper “The Wall Street Journal” has highlighted growing concerns among Washington officials over a gradual erosion of US military capabilities, driven by the depletion of large quantities of ammunition and missiles during military confrontations with Iran

According to the report, officials said significant drawdowns in US strategic stockpiles following intense conflict have reached levels that risk impairing the ability to execute contingency defense plan for Taiwan in the event of a potential Chinese attack in the near term.

The report noted that the US military has launched more than 1,000 Tomahawk long-range missiles in the war with Iran, as well as between 1,500 and 2,000 critical air defense missiles, including THAAD and Patriot interceptors.

US officials emphasized that the use of these advanced weapons has placed significant strain on the US arsenal, particularly given the limited capacity of the defense industrial base to replenish stockpiles quickly, raising concerns about reduced readiness in other strategic theaters worldwide.
