Fire at Sponge Factory South of Sanaa injures firefighters

SANAA, April 12 (YPA) – A large fire broke out on Saturday at a sponge factory south of Sanaa, injuring several firefighters and causing significant material damage, according to the Civil Defense Department.

The department said its teams successfully contained and extinguished the blaze after preventing it from spreading to nearby homes. The fire reportedly started in a production hangar containing highly flammable materials before extending to other storage areas.

Officials attributed the rapid spread of the fire to the nature of the stored materials and a lack of adequate safety measures, noting that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause.

The authority urged industrial facility owners to comply with safety regulations and install modern firefighting systems to help prevent similar incidents.
