ADEN, Feb. 13 (YPA) – Saudi Arabia-led coalition’s plans in Yemen are threatened with failure after fighting between its allies in the country’s southern port city of Aden escalated, Germany’s public international broadcaster Deutsche Welle has reported.
“If the infighting between Saudi-backed militias and the United Arab Emirates-backed militias continues, Saudi Arabia would face the worst failure in Yemen,” Deutsche Welle quoted Kirsten Knepp, a German journalist familiar with the region affairs, as saying.
Saudi Arabia and UAE, both led a US-backed Arab coalition forces, intervened in the Yemeni conflict in March 2015 in plans to reinstate exiled, resigned president Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi into power. Both rival Gulf states have contradictory objectives in Yemen.
Abu Dhabi has plans to eliminate Islah party, which is the Muslim Brotherhood’ branch in Aden, while Saudi Arabia backs Islah party loyal to Riyadh-based Hadi.
The recent clashes in Aden have killed hundreds of people from both rival forces, which eventually ended with the UAE-backed Yemeni southern separatist seized Aden and forced Saudi-backed Islah party to flee.
