GAZA, April 09 (YPA) – Several Palestinians were martyred in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday evening, April 8, 2026, following a new wave of Israeli airstrikes targeting both civilians and media personnel.
Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Civil Defense in Gaza announced the martyrdom of journalist Mohammad Washah, a correspondent for Al Jazeera Mubasher, after an Israeli airstrike directly hit his vehicle in the Sheikh Ajlin area, west of Gaza City.
Basal confirmed that the strike killed Washah and a companion instantly after the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames.
He added that Civil Defense teams rushed to the scene to extinguish the fire and recover the bodies under difficult field conditions. The victims’ remains were later transferred to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.
With his death, the total number of journalists killed since the start of the war on October 7 has risen to 260, highlighting the extreme risks faced by those reporting on the humanitarian crisis.
In a separate attack, two Palestinian civilians were killed in the Zeitoun neighborhood, east of Gaza City, after an Israeli drone targeted a gathering of unarmed residents.
