Following his threats to Iran, Democrats call for activation of 25th Amendment to impeach Trump

WASHINGTON, April 08 (YPA) – Several American and British outlets, including Axios, The Hill, and The Guardian, have reported that numerous members of the US House of Representatives, along with some of former President Trump’s allies, are openly invoking the 25th Amendment of the US Constitution as a means to remove him from office.

Democratic dissatisfaction peaked following President Trump’s profane Easter Sunday warning to Iranian officials: “open the damn Strait, crazy bastards, or you will live in hell.”

On the following Tuesday, Trump escalated his rhetoric by threatening to target Iran’s civilian infrastructure, such as bridges and power plants—a move that legal experts caution may constitute a war crime.

The Hill noted that Trump’s explicit threat to “end a whole civilization” provoked strong backlash from Democrats.

By Tuesday afternoon, over 50 Democratic representatives and influential senators had called for his impeachment.

The debate over Trump’s impeachment centers on two constitutional provisions. The first is the 25th Amendment, which permits the vice president and a majority of Cabinet members to declare the president “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.”

The second is the impeachment process, initiated by the House of Representatives with a simple majority vote, followed by a Senate trial requiring a two-thirds majority to convict and remove the president.
