VIENNA, April 04 (YPA) – The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Saturday that Iran had notified it of an attack near the Bushehr nuclear power plant earlier in the day, the fourth such incident reported in recent weeks.
According to the agency, a projectile landed close to the facility, killing a member of the security team due to shrapnel and damaging one of the buildings as a result of blast waves and debris. It confirmed that no rise in radiation levels had been detected.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi expressed serious concern over the incident, stressing the need to avoid targeting nuclear facilities or their vicinity, as associated structures may house critical safety equipment.
He urged maximum military restraint to prevent the risk of a nuclear incident.
Earlier, Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization reported that the Bushehr plant had been struck, blaming the United States and Israel enemy for the attack and announcing the death of a worker at the site.
