SANAA, April 02 (YPA) – The Sanaa-based Yemeni Foreign Ministry declared on Thursday the departure of a Russian sailor who had been detained while aboard the ship Eternity Sea, flying the Liberian flag and bound for the port of Umm al-Rashrash, occupied in July 2025.
In a statement, the ministry affirmed that the sailor is now returning to Russia.
The statement said the release was made possible through diplomatic contacts with the Russian authorities and coordination with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“The Russian citizen was transported via a UN plane, in coordination with the UN envoy,” the statement noted, adding that the sailor had received medical treatment in Sana’a and was cleared to travel after recovering.
The ministry’s statement also confirmed that the operation included the repatriation of several stranded and ill individuals from abroad, as well as the travel of some stranded and sick citizens from within Yemen.
