Sanaa launches $209,688 support project for orphan care homes

SANAA, Feb. 26 (YPA) – The General Zakat Authority, in cooperation with the General Administration of the Orphanage, organized an event on Wednesday in Sana’a to mark National Orphan Day.

On the occasion, the Authority launched a project to support orphan care homes at a total cost of 50 million Yemeni riyals, which equal $209,688.00.

It also announced plans to provide clothing for all orphans at the Capital Secretariat’s orphanage, as well as those in care facilities across other governorates.

The ceremony was attended by Abdulilah Hajar, advisor to the chairman of the Supreme Political Council.

In remarks delivered during the event, the head of the General Zakat Authority, Shamsan Abu Nashtan, stressed the importance of integrating orphans into national celebrations, addressing their needs, and fostering a sense of joy and inclusion.

He described Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a model of compassion toward orphans, and commended administrators of care homes for their commitment to supporting this vulnerable group, reflecting the values of charity and mercy in Islam.

He added: “All relevant authorities and stakeholders must give sincere attention to this group in orphan care homes in the Capital Secretariat and other governorates, in accordance with the gracious directives of the revolutionary and political leadership.”
