At least 30 dead following heavy rains in Brazil

BRASILIA, Feb. 25 (YPA) – At least 30 people have died in Brazil due to heavy rains since 23 February, with search efforts ongoing for 40 missing individuals

Minas Gerais’ fire department said in a statement on Tuesday that the death toll from the floods affecting the cities of Juiz de Fora and Ubá had reached 30.

Search and recovery efforts are ongoing as authorities work to locate the 40 missing individuals.

Brazilian authorities warned that more rainfall is expected and confirmed that a state of emergency remains in effect. Residents have been urged to avoid dangerous areas, according to local media reports.
