TEHRAN, Feb. 19 (YPA) – Joint Iranian-Russian naval exercises commenced on Thursday in the Oman Sea and the northern Indian Ocean.
Special operations units from the Iranian Navy and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy, alongside their Russian counterparts, conducted a joint exercise simulating the liberation of a hijacked ship as part of the combined naval drills.
Iranian admiral Hassan Maghsadlou, the drill spokesman, stated that the participating warships set out on their missions yesterday.
After deploying across the Oman Sea and northern Indian Ocean, information was exchanged between the operational centers aboard the ships.
Maghsadlou explained that the special operations teams from the Iranian Navy and IRGC Navy, working with Russian units, carried out a series of exercises, with all objectives of the drills successfully achieved.
He added that the Iranian Navy conducts a range of routine programs in the field of defense diplomacy, and these exercises are part of the annual programs agreed upon with Russia.
