National initiative launched in Sanaa to seed, grow kernel of dates

SANAA, Feb. 15 (YPA) – A meeting was held on Saturday in Sanaa, chaired by member of the Supreme Political Council Mohammed Al-Nuaimi, to discuss the arrangements for the launch of the national initiative for the germination and cultivation of date kernels at the beginning of Ramadan under the slogan “the kernel of today is the palm of tomorrow”.

The meeting, in the presence of Acting Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources Ammar al-Karim and Deputy Minister of Information Dr. Omar al-Bukhaiti, reviewed the objectives of the initiative aimed at promoting awareness of the importance of palm cultivation and investing the cores of dates wasted during Ramadan and turning them into seedlings that contribute to expanding the agricultural area and supporting food security.

The initiative is based on encouraging every citizen to plant at least three cores a day during the holy month, which could lead to the production of millions of seedlings annually at almost zero cost and turn a wasted resource into a sustainable economic asset.

Al-Nuaimi stressed that the initiative represents a model for development with community participation and promoting self-sufficiency, while Ammar al-Karim explained that the ministry will prepare a simplified guide to ensure the success and sustainability of implementation, given its environmental and economic feasibility in increasing vegetation cover and reducing seedling costs.
