RIYADH, Feb. 03 (YPA) -Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, who leads Al-Nassr, has rocked the sports world locally and abroad by sitting out his team’s match against Al-Riyadh on Monday.
Sources close to the player described the decision as a “protest strike” against the policies of the Public Investment Fund (PIF).
According to Portugal’s A Bola, the surge in reaction comes alongside mounting talk of Ronaldo’s frustration with Al Nassr’s management over what he views as modest winter reinforcements — especially when compared to Al Hilal’s bold activity this season.
That has sparked speculation that certain deals involving the Riyadh giants may have been placed on a temporary hold until the wider transfer picture becomes clearer.
Renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Ronaldo’s absence is “not due to injury or rest,” but a decision taken solely by the player.
He also highlighted “serious tensions” behind the scenes between Ronaldo’s representatives and the PIF.
Global sports outlets, including Spain’s AS and Marca, have heavily covered the unfolding crisis, which has escalated significantly following Ronaldo’s involvement.
