Sanaa: Washington pressures humanitarian agencies to withdraw; 55% of facilities destroyed

SANAA, Jan. 27 (YPA) – The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Environment in Sanaa, Dr. Anis al-Asbahi, has accused the United States of exerting pressure on international organizations to withdraw their activities from Yemen, further exacerbating the country’s humanitarian catastrophe.

Al-Asbahi detailed that a decade of conflict and blockade has resulted in:

  • Infrastructure Collapse: 55% of health facilities are now non-functional, with over 500 medical centers fully or partially destroyed.
  • Malnutrition Crisis:5 million children suffer from malnutrition, including 600,000 cases of severe acute malnutrition.
  • Epidemic Outbreaks: Approximately 13 million cases of infectious diseases were recorded within a single year, which officials attribute to the use of internationally prohibited weapons.

Additionally, Dr. Mutahar al-Darwish, Chairman of the Supreme Medical Committee, confirmed that the blockade has caused a 60% drop in medical imports. This has intensified the suffering of thousands of patients requiring specialized surgeries and urgent treatment abroad.
