Palestinian infant dies due to severe cold wave hitting Gaza

GAZA, Jan. 21 (YPA) – A Palestinian infant died on Tuesday due to a severe cold wave hitting the Gaza Strip, raising to nine the number of children, in light of deteriorating living and humanitarian conditions, a Gaza-based health ministry said in a statement.

Th statement affirmed that the infant, seven-month-old Shatha Abu Jarad from Gaza City’s al-Daraj neighborhood, died after her heart suddenly stopped as a result of extreme cold.

It added that thousands of families are suffering from an acute shortage of heating means and basic necessities, as a result of the widespread destruction of homes and shelter centers.

This incident comes in the context of the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, where children and displaced people face harsh conditions inside worn-out tents and war-damaged buildings, amid limited health services and lack of protection from frost waves.
