HADRAMOUT, Jan. 03 (YPA) – The Saudi Air Force has carried out a series of airstrikes targeting Sayoun Airport and the headquarters of the First Military Region in Hadramout Governorate, eastern Yemen.
This escalation follows direct aerial support that enabled the “Dera Al-Watan” forces to seize control of the 137th Brigade headquarters and the Al-Khash’a area, following the withdrawal of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions.
Observers view the direct targeting of STC positions as a military prelude to expanding confrontations in Sayoun city and eastern Yemen. It is also seen as an indicator of Riyadh’s move to curb the influence of UAE-backed factions in the region.
This field escalation coincides with the announcement by STC President Aidarus al-Zubaidi regarding the termination of the partnership and the commencement of a two-year “transitional phase.”
Analysts describe this move as a “complication of the landscape” that shuts the door on any potential understandings between regional powers and pushes the situation toward an open military confrontation in the eastern provinces.
