Sanaa offers to sponsor “peace initiative” amid Saudi-Emirati conflict in southern, eastern Yemen

SANAA, Jan. 03 (YPA) – The Sanaa authorities launched a political initiative calling on the parties involved in the ongoing conflict between factions loyal to the Saudi-led coalition in southern and eastern the country to stop the bloodshed and resort to dialogue.

This is the first official response from the Sanaa authorities regarding the accelerating field developments in southern and eastern Yemen.

Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, a member of the Supreme Political Council in Sanaa, expressed via the “X” platform on Friday evening Sanaa’s readiness to act as a mediator and host a national dialogue involving all parties in the capital, Sanaa.

Al-Houthi emphasized that the leadership is ready to provide a foundation for a “just peace” that spares Yemeni lives, free from “political grandstanding” and with an open ceiling that guarantees the rights of all involved.

Key Highlights of the Initiative and Political Stance:

Al-Houthi revealed ongoing communication with local actors in the conflict-ridden provinces, noting that these parties have realized that the continuation of the conflict is designed to drain and destroy remaining national resources.

The Sanaa official stressed the necessity of ending internal conflicts and redirecting efforts toward major regional causes, primarily confronting the Israeli entity and defending Al-Quds (Al-Aqsa Mosque).

Al-Houthi characterized current events as a repetition of a familiar scene with “the same faces and methods,” referring to the renewed conflict between the allies of the “coalition.”

This offer comes at a highly sensitive time as fierce battles between Saudi and UAE-backed factions intensify across several eastern fronts. Sanaa’s initiative raises questions about its potential impact on the complex political landscape and its ability to shift existing alliances.
