ADEN, Dec. 30 (YPA) – A wave of frustration is hitting the travel sector after Yemenia Airways announced a sudden decision to impose financial penalties on ticket cancellations (VOID), effective January 1, 2026.
According to a circular distributed to accredited travel agents, the airline will now charge a $10 fee for cancellations exceeding a specific percentage of monthly sales. Furthermore, a $50 penalty will be applied to any ticket canceled (VOID) within 24 hours of flight departure. This represents a radical change for the carrier, which previously allowed such cancellations without any additional fees.
The decision was met with immediate condemnation from travel agents, who argued that the measures were implemented without prior consultation.
The agents have warned that the new penalties will negatively significantly reduce the flexibility of services provided to the public. They emphasized that such costs will ultimately fall on the passengers, further compounding the financial hardships faced by citizens under the current economic climate.
While travel agents are demanding an immediate reversal or revision of this policy, Yemenia Airways has yet to issue an official response.
