Several gunmen killed in clashes between Saudi-, UAE-backed factions in Hadramout

HADRAMOUT, Dec. 26 (YPA) – Violent armed clashes broke out on Thursday in Hadramout province, east Yemen.

Local sources said the clashes erupted between the forces of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) and the forces of the Saudi-funded Hadramout Tribal Alliance (HTA).

Medical sources affirmed that Al-Shahr hospital in the province received a number of the dead and injured as a result of the clashes, without disclosing official figures.

This sudden escalation on the ground came just hours after an official statement by the Saudi Foreign Ministry, which called for “truce and restraint”, and warned of the danger of continuing escalation.

The clashes broke out amid escalating tensions in the province, and none of the warring parties or local authorities issued an official statement clarifying the details of the incident or its direct causes, while the atmosphere in the area of the clash kept tense with fear of renewed fighting.
