HOMS, Dec. 26 (YPA) – At least eight people were killed and nearly 20 others were injured, some seriously, in an explosion at the Imam Ali Mosque in the predominantly Alawite neighborhood of Wadi Al-Dhahab in Homs, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported.
The injured people were taken to the hospital.
SOHR said it just reported that an explosion took place inside Imam Ali Mosque in Wadi Al-Dhahab area in Homs city, amid a state of public panic.
It is not known yet if the explosion was a suicide attack or caused by detonating an IED.
According to SOHR, the explosion left casualties. Ambulances rushed to the site, while members of general security forces fired bullets in the air.
Following the explosion, residents of Wadi Al-Dhahab neighbourhood called upon car owners to rush to the mosque to help transport injured people to hospitals.
