HCRF announces first-ever local cochlear implant program in Yemen

SANAA, Dec. 25 (YPA) – The Sanaa-based Handicap Care and Rehabilitation Fund (HCRF) organized on Wednesday a ceremony to announce the localization of cochlear implant services for people with hearing disabilities in Yemen for the first time.

During an event, the Minister of Health and Environment, Dr. Ali Shiban, stressed that the localization of this service represents a qualitative achievement to break the challenges of potential, pointing to the endeavor to expand the program and train new medical cadres.

He also pointed to upcoming efforts to reduce disabilities through early detection programs.

For his part, deputy of the Ministry of Social Affairs and labor Mohammed Eqbat praised the efforts made by the ministry and the fund in developing services for people with disabilities.

He stressed the importance of strengthening community support and the private sector.

Meanwhile, the executive director of the fund, Dr. Ali Mughli, announced the opening of the rehabilitation program for cochlear implant recipients starting in 2026, stressing that Emiratization achieves self-sufficiency and ends the suffering of traveling for treatment.

The ceremony was organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and Dr. Abdulkarim Al-Balasi Hospital.
