Al-Thawabteh: The health situation in Gaza is critical

GAZA, Dec. 25 (YPA) – Ismail Al-Thawabteh, head of Gaza’s Government Media Office, affirmed that the health situation is critical and could escalate into a large-scale humanitarian catastrophe.

Al-Thawabteh explained that the Israeli occupation deliberately allows only limited medical and emergency supplies into Gaza, which are consumed immediately upon arrival, while blocking the entry of vital medical equipment such as surgical tools and medications for chronic diseases.

He added the incoming aid lacks specialized surgical equipment and medications for chronic illnesses, while hospitals face an acute shortage of surgical tools, orthopedic devices, and anesthesia drugs. As a result, a number of hospitals have been forced to partially or completely suspend surgeries.

Al-Thawabteh stated that nearly 500,000 surgical procedures are currently pending due to the near collapse of Gaza’s healthcare system, noting that medical supplies entering the Strip meet no more than 10% of actual needs.
