WEST BANK, Dec. 13 (YPA) – At least 1,000 Palestinians have been displaced since the beginning of this year in Area C, which constitutes about 60 percent of the occupied West Bank, as a result of home demolitions carried out by Israel, the United Nations revealed.
In a press conference, Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, said that “since the beginning of the year, more than 1,000 people have been displaced in Area C, which constitutes about 60 percent of the West Bank, an area where Israel almost exclusively controls law enforcement, planning, and construction,” according to UN data.
He added that most of the displaced Palestinians had their homes demolished under the pretext that they lacked Israeli building permits, permits he described as “virtually impossible” for Palestinians to obtain.
The UN official also noted that this level of displacement represents the second highest annual rate recorded since 2009.
