NEW YORK, Dec. 09 (YPA) – Saudi Arabia on Tuesday escalated its moves against the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militia.
Western diplomatic sources reported that Riyadh is conducting outreach within the United Nations to classify the STC on the international sanctions list as an obstacle to the political process in Yemen.
This development follows a meeting organized by Saudi Arabia between ambassadors of the permanent members of the UN Security Council and the President of the ‘Presidential Leadership Council,’ Rashad Al-Alimi.
During the meeting, Al-Alimi launched a sharp attack on the STC, accusing it of staging a coup against “national consensus” and obstructing the political settlement. Al-Alimi explicitly demanded international pressure to expel the pro-UAE militia from eastern Yemen.
