ADEN, Dec. 07 (YPA) – The UAE-funded Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s factions have imposed full control over the Aden’s Maashiq Presidential Palace, which is held by the chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), Rashad Al-Alimi.
Political sources familiar with the matter said on Sunday the STC’s factions forced the battalion of the so-called Presidential Protection of Al-Alimi” to leave the palace, imposing full control over the guard duties at it.
The sources clarified that the forces of the presidential protection in Aden, including Saudi and Sudanese elements, left the palace carrying their personal arms to camp run by the Saudi-led coalition in the Brega area of Aden.
Last week, the PLC’s head who left to the Saudi capital Riyadh, accompanied by his entire team, after the STC forces had taken over the palace.
The sources added that Al-Alimi’s departure from Aden came after armed groups from the STC’s factions surrounded his residence, and his security guards were subjected to armed harassment, which prompted him to request the intervention of the Saudi forces.
They pointed out that Al-Alimi directed to empty his office completely, burn all sensitive documents and files, and withdraw weapons and cars belonging to the presidential palace.
The control of the STC’s factions over the Palace came days after they took control of the camps of the Islah Party-run first military zone in the districts of Hadramout.
