US media: The drug trade is flourishing in Saudi Arabia

WORLD, Nov. 30 (YPA) – US media outlets have once again reported that Saudi Arabia has become a major hub for narcotics, making it one of the world’s most active countries in drug distribution.

According to a new report by the US network CNN, Saudi Arabia still the drug capital in the Middle East.

This is not the first time US media have addressed drug trafficking inside the kingdom.

Both CNN and Foreign Policy magazine previously published reports in 2022 claiming that the drug trade is flourishing in Saudi Arabia, which they described as topping Arab countries in trafficking and distribution.

In May 2023, an opposition Saudi newspaper alleged that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was involved in drug trafficking in the kingdom and that Saudi authorities were using drug addicts to mistreat political detainees in prison.

According to observers, the Saudi government’s policies of openness under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, which include publicly opening alcohol bars in major cities, have directly contributed to facilitating the promotion of drugs.
