QUDS, Nov. 28 (YPA) – The Israeli occupation authorities have issued a new decision to seize the inner courtyard of the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron, in a move that represents a serious escalation that threatens the historical and legal status of the Haram al-Sharif.
Director of the Ibrahimi Mosque, Moataz
Abu Snina, said that the Israeli occupation forces also seized the electricity and water systems inside the sanctuary, considering this a clear violation of international conventions that ensure the protection of religious and heritage sites, including the Hebron Agreement of 1997 and the relevant UNESCO resolutions.
In the same context, acting mayor of Hebron, Asma al-Sharbati, stressed that the latest decision poses a direct threat to the Ibrahimi Mosque classified on the list of World Heritage in danger,
He warned that the occupation paves the way for further measures aimed at changing the nature of the sanctuary and imposing new facts on the ground.
Abu Snina had pointed out in previous statements that the occupation measures are moving towards moving from the temporal and spatial division of the campus, to an attempt to impose full control over it, through gradual steps aimed at changing the religious and historical monuments of the site.
