UN Rapporteur: EU and member states ignore Gaza massacres

BRUSSELS, Nov. 19 (YPA) – Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territory, reiterated her criticism of the European Union and its member states over their policies regarding the Palestinian issue and the ongoing crisis in Gaza.

Speaking to the press outside the European Parliament in Brussels, Albanese confirmed that the European Union has become a cover for member states to avoid fulfilling their international obligations regarding the Gaza and Palestine issue.

She stated, “The continued failure to suspend the trade agreement (with Israel) is extremely dangerous, especially as a result of the opposition from Germany and Italy.”

Albanese addressed the ongoing arms trade between EU countries and Israel, saying, “It is very dangerous for European countries to continue sending arms to Israel, buying arms from Israel, and conduct scientific research through the Horizon program. The issue is not that the EU is not doing enough, rather it is that the EU, through its member states and policies, is aiding the destruction of Palestine.”
