OCCUPIED PALESTINE, Nov. 17 (YPA) – The Prisoners’ Media Office announced, on Monday, that leader prisoner Abdullah Barghouti has been facing one of the most severe forms of physical and psychological abuse inside Gilboa Prison since his arrest on March 5, 2003, and this has escalated over the last two years.
The office explained in a press release that Barghouti (53 years old) is subjected to “systematic torture” amounting to slow execution, warning that his deteriorating condition could lead to his death at any moment in the absence of any oversight or accountability for the occupation’s prison administration.
The statement indicated that the attacks on the prisoner have intensified over the past 25 months, with suppression teams carrying out repeated raids on his cell day and night, accompanied by police dogs. A number of guards then restrain him, and three of them begin beating him with batons, causing deep wounds and continuous bleeding that the prisoners can only treat with rudimentary means, such as scraps of torn clothing and simple cleaning materials.
The Barghouti family holds the occupying authorities fully responsible for his life, amid growing human rights demands to stop the violations and provide urgent protection for him and the prisoners inside Israeli occupation prisons.
