At least nine people killed, 29 others injured in Kashmir explosion

KASHMIR, Nov. 15 (YPA) – At least nine people were killed and 29 others injured in a massive explosion that rocked a police station in Indian-administered Kashmir on Friday, police sources told Reuters.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the blast occurred inside the station while a large quantity of explosives seized by Indian forces during a major security operation was being examined.

They confirmed that most of the victims were police officers, including forensic experts who were inspecting the explosives.

The sources added that some of the injured were in critical condition, suggesting the death toll could rise.

One source said that the process of identifying the bodies was still underway as some were completely burned, adding that the force of the explosion was so powerful that some body parts were recovered from nearby houses as far as 100 to 200 meters from the police station.

This explosion comes four days after a car bomb exploded in the capital, New Delhi, killing eight people, in an incident described by the Indian government as “terrorist”.
